Guiding the 10X Cohort Through Building Their First WooCommerce Stores

The digital economy is shifting rapidly, and women are positioning themselves at the forefront of this transformation. In our recent technical sessions at Refactory Academy, I had the privilege of leading a cohort of ambitious ladies as they took on the challenge of building fully functional e-commerce websites from scratch using Content Management Systems (CMS) and WooCommerce.

Watching these developers move from a completely blank canvas to a live, operational digital storefront in a single session was a powerful reminder of what targeted technical mentorship can achieve.

Step-by-Step to a Live Store

We didn’t just talk about e-commerce theory we rolled up our sleeves and built. I walked the participants through the exact technical roadmap used by industry professionals to deploy production-ready web stores:

  • Core Infrastructure Setup: The session kicked off with installing and configuring WordPress as our foundational CMS, followed by the deployment of WooCommerce to unlock e-commerce capabilities.
  • Design & Theme Customization: The ladies selected and installed professional e-commerce themes, transforming raw code into clean, highly responsive user interfaces.
  • Navigation & Content Architecture: We focused heavily on user experience (UX) by restructuring navigation menus for seamless browsing and setting up active blog sections to drive organic traffic.
  • Product Realization: Finally, the participants successfully populated their storefronts configuring digital catalogs, price points, variations, and stock management controls.

A Strong Collaborative Network Driving the 10X Initiative

This hands-on training is a core pillar of the 10X Program, a collaborative initiative structured to remove barriers and welcome more women into the digital trade economy.

Watching these builders troubleshoot setup bugs, refine their menus, and launch their shops confirms that practical, mentor-led programs are vital. I am incredibly proud of what these ladies accomplished in our session, and I look forward to seeing their digital storefronts disrupt the local market.
