My Experience at WordCamp Mukono 2026

Attending WordCamp Mukono 2026 was an inspiring and enriching experience. Held on March 13–14 at the beautiful Murs Country Resort (also known as Mars Resort) in Kigunga, Seeta, Mukono, the event brought together passionate WordPress users, developers, designers, educators, content creators, and contributors from Uganda and the East African region.

The theme, “Sustainable Growth – Building a Lasting WordPress Future,” guided every part of the gathering. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming.

First Impressions and Icebreakers

On the first day, the excitement was immediate. I shared this on X:

“First day at #WordCampMukono Excited to connect, learn, and share ideas with the amazing WordPress community. @WCMukono”

Icebreaker games kicked off the event beautifully, creating laughter, fun interactions, and early connections that made everyone feel included and energized from the start.

The Stunning Venue

The venue greatly enhanced the entire experience. Nestled in a calm and scenic location, Murs Country Resort offered the perfect setting for focused learning mixed with relaxation.

On the second day, I posted:

“The beautiful scenery at Mars Resort is making the experience at #WordCampMukono2026 even more special. A perfect blend of learning, networking, and nature with the amazing @WordPress Community. @WCMukono”

The lush surroundings, fresh air, and peaceful grounds made it easy to step outside during breaks for thoughtful conversations while enjoying nature. Ugandan hospitality was evident in every detail.

Knowledge Sharing and Sessions

The sessions were practical, insightful, and well-aligned with the event theme. They covered important topics such as:

  • Sustainable WordPress businesses and client practices
  • Long-term community building and leadership development
  • Performance, security, and maintainable WordPress solutions
  • AI tools and practices for individuals and businesses
  • Mastering the Block Editor
  • Hands-on workshops where attendees wrote code, tested features, and learned directly from experts
  • An inspiring Educators’ Track that explored WordPress education initiatives, including credits, campus connect programs, and student club initiatives

There was also a dedicated Contributor Session that encouraged attendees to move from simply using WordPress to actively contributing to the open-source project.

As an EduTech trainer and digital content creator, I found these sessions highly relevant to my work empowering teachers and young learners through technology. The hands-on approach gave me actionable ideas I can apply right away.

Networking and Community Spirit

Beyond the sessions, the real magic happened through networking. The event created a warm space for genuine conversations, idea exchange, and building connections with fellow educators, developers, designers, and contributors from across Uganda and neighboring countries.

A beautiful highlight was the organizers’ heartfelt shoutout to all the amazing women who attended their energy and participation added even more vibrancy to the event. The official photos captured these special moments: icebreaker fun, focused discussions, laughter during networking, and relaxed conversations against the scenic resort backdrop.

Final Reflections

WordCamp Mukono 2026 reminded me of the power of community-driven events. The combination of high-quality sessions, fun icebreakers, inspiring conversations, and the refreshing venue left a lasting impression.

I returned home motivated to apply sustainable practices in my projects, deepen my WordPress skills, and contribute more actively to the local WordPress community in Uganda.

Conclusion

WordCamp Mukono 2026 was more than just an event it was a celebration of sustainable growth, collaboration, and the bright future of WordPress in East Africa. From the beautiful scenery at Murs Country Resort to the warm connections formed, every aspect was thoughtfully executed.

If you are passionate about WordPress, I highly recommend attending the next WordCamp Mukono. The experience of learning, networking, and connecting in such a refreshing setting is truly special.
